“At home with Bach” - a legacy of musical inheritance
BACH – the name alone came to signify ‘music’ in his time. But it was not only our beloved Johann Sebastian who brought on this fame. The family Bach was full of musicians of all sorts, beginning with a simple piper - his great-grandfather Hans Bach (b.1580) – and ending with his charming grandson Wilhelm Friedrich Ernst (b.1759), music director to Frederick William II of Prussia. The breadth, quality, and quantity of the family Bach’s music is truly astounding. In this concert, we chronologically explore contrasting music from six different Bachs: Johann Bernhard (a second cousin), the illustrious Johann Sebastian, and his sons Wilhelm Friedemann, Carl Philipp Emanuel, Johann Christian Friedemann, and Johann Christian. Each of the Bachs were amazingly unique yet part of a family legacy whose musical qualities are nothing short of genius.
